The 5 things that make a great coffee?

In short,  a great coffee…

  1. Has a rich aroma
  2. Balanced flavour
  3. A pleasant aftertaste
  4. Good-quality water is used
  5. The right amount of coffee is mixed with water
  6. The correct temperature of water

Believe it or not, the above can be achieved with coffee pods and a coffee pod machine.

To help explain this a little better, the Vibe Coffee Gurus have summarised the 5 factors that make up a great coffee…

#1.  Coffee Beans:

By way of a quick summary, when it comes to selecting the right coffee beans…

  1. Prioritise freshness
  2. Consider the preferred flavour profile (e.g., fruity, chocolatey, nutty)
  3. Choose between single-origin or blended beans
  4. Select a preferred roast level (light, medium, or dark)

Other than freshness, the coffee bean selection is to your preference.

#2.  Water Quality:

Because coffee is mostly water, using water free of odour, taste, and impurities becomes important.

When you are home, this means using use filtered water.  The fewer the minerals in the water, the better.

Overtime, water heavy in minerals will affect the performance of your coffee pod machine.  When this happens you need to clean or descale your pod machine.

#3.  Water temperature:

The ideal coffee brewing temperature is between 91°C and 96°C. Water that’s too hot can burn the coffee, and water that’s too cold will not extract the coffee properly.

This is the process of hydrolysis shaking loose different compounds in your coffee.

#4.  Brew ratio:

The ratio of coffee to water is important to get right.  The research suggests 16 parts water to 1 part coffee.  At home, with your coffee pod machine, you can adjust this ratio to your own preference.

#5.  Grind Size:

The grind size affects how quickly water dissolves the coffee particles.  This is why espresso machines in cafes have precise grinding settings.

The recommendation is to produce a fine grind, similar to the texture of powdered sugar or fine salt.  It is this level of grind that allows for the proper extraction and flavor.

Why Fine Grind?

The fine grind achieves the following…

  1. Ensures the water can effectively saturate the coffee grounds, leading to a balanced and flavourful espresso.
  2. Increases the surface area of the coffee grounds to interact with water which allows for better extraction of the coffee’s oils and flavors.
  3. Delivers a higher concentration of caffeine.

The Vibe Coffee Grind Process:

The coffee grind process is a high priority for Vibe Coffee’s coffee pods. Special care is taken to produce the size of the grind and how its applied into the pods.

Then the coffee pod seal has two distinct functions…

  1. Seal the freshly ground coffee to ensure it remains fresh once its being used by our customers.
  2. Enable the coffee pod machine to effectively puncture the seal to enable the water to interact with every coffee grind and allow for the perfect extraction of coffee and water into the mug.

This is what sets Vibe’s coffee pods apart.
